Our BVI Staycation
Here in Tortola, our borders have been closed for many months. Since we were unable to travel, we played tourist in our own backyard! We have been seeing our islands with a new view and it has renewed our love for the territory. The fish and wildlife are flourishing, the beaches are still beautiful and the water is refreshing and inviting. We can truly see why this place is so special to so many people around the world. We are very fortunate to live where you want to vacation
We know people love to sail and dive when they are here. Who can blame them?! We have the best sailing in the world and some the most one of a kind dive sites. The dive companies are still operating, albeit infrequently, and on a recent trip to the RMS Rhone, 5 reef sharks were spotted, Queen Angelfish were abundant and juvenile Drumfish were thriving. It was breathtaking, and our group felt special as we were the only people there and the only boat that was spotted the whole day!
While sailing around and enjoying our staycations we are able to experience what the BVI would have been like back in the 1960’s. Your boat can have the privilege and the privacy of being the only boat in the harbor. The stars seem to shine just for you and the turtles seem to play as you snorkel alongside them. The laughing gulls still grace you with their presence and sing up a storm while resting on the bow sprit. Pelicans glide gracefully along the ocean’s surface before diving belowfor their meal and the sunsets bask you with the orange and yellow hues at the end of the day.
While the world was quiet and everyone was inside with their friends and family, nature reclaimed their homes. The birds flew freely, the fish explored and re-populated their numbers, and the land based
animals reclaimed areas that were once theirs. They thrived and as a thank you, they made this planet beautiful again.
Although we loved having the islands to ourselves for a bit, we are really looking forward to welcoming our visitors with warm and open arms!
